FAQs

How do I join/how do I play the game?

There are two ways to join/play the game:
  • By registering yourself and then creating your own league. This way you become the league-manager and you get to invite friends to join your league.
  • By getting an invitation from another league manager. This way you have no control over who joins the league you belong to, but can still enjoy the game by competing with other members of the league.
  • By joining a public league whereby you get to compete with other gamers on the internet as members of the public league. This way you can avoid being the league manager/captain of a user league.

How many players can form a league?

You can have a minimum of 2 players and a maximum of 4-8 players (including you) in a league depending on the type of tournament being played. Remember, more the number of players in your league, the more competitive and challenging the game becomes.

How do I build my team?

Once you are registered on cricketshowdown.com, you can create your wish-list by choosing real players from the upcoming IPL Twenty20 from the drop-down menu. Try to choose as many favorite players as you can, ranking them in descending order so that you can have a better team after the overnight draft/online draft completes. The pre-draft wish-list DOES NOT represent or guarantee your final drafted team. The pre-draft wish-list is nothing but an ordered list of players who you might want to have in your team.

What is a draft?

A draft is a process of building final teams of pre-determined number of players for all the league members based on the wish-list (in case of an overnight draft) and/or on the list of available players (in case of an online draft) in the tournament. In case a league member has been unable to create a wish-list on time, then the member is assigned the next highest ranking player (Cricket Showdown ranking for a particular category) available on the list during the draft process.

What is an online draft?

An online draft is a process by which each member can choose his team player while staying online simultaneously with other members. This ensures better chances of getting the desired team once the draft completes. This process is only available for user leagues and NOT for public leagues. The league manager can invite his league members to participate in the online draft at a particular timing. If a majority of the league members accept the invitation, then the online draft can begin at that time (provided atleast 2 league members are actually online at the assigned time). If not, then the league manager needs to send a fresh invitation to his league members.

What is an overnight draft?

A draft is an automatic process of building a team of pre-determined number of players (based on the type of tournament) from your wish-list in such a manner that no two members of your League are assigned the same player. This is based on a pre-defined algorithm. Drafting is done by assigning the players one by one to each team based on the wish-lists. The drafting begins with the wish list of the league-manager by choosing the highest available player for that team. Then a player from another wish-list is chosen and the cycle is continued until all the teams have enough players. The same player won’t be assigned in any team twice. Hence NO two teams in a LEAGUE will be alike. You can watch the demo for better understanding of the draft process.

What if I am not satisfied with the team I am assigned after the draft completes? Can I modify my team?

You are free to modify your team up to a certain limit (maximum limit is always mentioned at the top of the page where you update your team players) after the draft completes by adding new players from the available list of players and dropping players assigned to you through the draft. However every player’s status will be locked just before his game begins. Make sure that you have the required number of batsmen, bowlers, all-rounders and 1 wicketkeeper active in your team at ALL times.

How do I add/drop players?

After logging in, click on the “Manage leagues” link. Select the edit icon () next to the team name (under “Drafted teams”) you wish to update. Make the necessary changes by following the available links and choosing items from the drop down menu next to each player name. However, every player’s status will be locked just before his game begins. Also, once the maximum limit for modifying your team is reached, you will not be allowed to make further modifications.

How do I make my bench players active?

After logging in, click on the “Manage leagues” link. Select the edit icon () next to the team name (under “Drafted teams”) you wish to update. Choose “active” from the drop down menu next to player name that you wish to activate. Simultaneously, you’ll be taken to the page whereby you need to turn an “active” player into a “bench” player. However, every player’s status will be locked just before his game begins. Also, once the maximum limit for modifying your team is reached, you will not be allowed to make further modifications.

Can I change leagues after joining a particular league?

No, once you are the member of a league and your team has been set through the overnight draft/online draft, you cannot change leagues. However, you can create/join as many leagues as you wish to.

How do I collect points in the game?

Based on the performance of a player (in your team) in the IPL matches, points are assigned according to the rules and regulations of the game. As long as the player is active in the IPL, he gets points for you. However, once the player’s team is out of the IPL, he becomes inactive in which case you can choose one of the reserve/bench players and place him in the active list. Hence you can continue to collect points based on real on-the-field performances of all the players in your team.

When does the game end?

The game ends with the end of the tournament. However, if all the players in your team become inactive before the end of the tournament, then the points accumulated by your team is taken as the final score for evaluating your chances for becoming the top scorer of the tournament.
